Google Gravity Games

On October 22, downtown Douglasville was the site for the 3rd Georgia Gravity Games sponsored by Google. This event is a real-world experience for students and adults from across the state of Georgia to use STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills to build and race their own gravity-powered cars. Cars may be propelled only using gravity to get them across the finish line. For the third years in a row, Mason Creek Elementary had not only one but two cars win trophies at the race. Fifth grade sponsored two teams: Team Jiles/Shipp and Team Betsill/Kimberley.   The drivers of the teams were Manny Greene and Emory Warren. Both drivers brought 2nd place trophies home to Mason Creek Elementary. Fourth grade Team Cox/Smith did an amazing job in the competition. Samantha Branton, driver for 4th grade, did her team proud by an excellent showing at the races! This is Mason Creek’ third year participating in the Google Gravity Games. Every year we have place in the top two teams in their categories. Saturday’s race had 58 competitors including middle and high school, local businesses and the sheriff’s department. We area so proud
