Emory was diagnosed at age 6, on June 1,2012, with ALL or Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  ALL is a quickly progressing and fatal, if not treated, blood cancer that is common in children. The family discovered that there are 46 newly diagnosed children daily in the US with pediatric cancer, but only 4% of federal funding goes to research for new treatments and a cure for them.

Emory went through an 8 day hospital stay to diagnose and treat his leukemia. This hospitalization included bone marrow aspirations, port placement with IV and spinal chemo.  He achieved remission upon discharge home.  Treatment continued for Emory.  He endured 9 rigorous months of IV and spinal chemotherapy, bone marrow biopsies, hair loss, nausea, fatigue and neuropathy after diagnosis.  Some of the side effects he still experiences today.  Emory continues his treatment of daily chemo pills and monthly IV treatment, along with quarterly spinal  taps and spinal chemo. His treatment will have lasted a total of 3 1/2 years in August 8, 2015 when it is complete.

Emory and his family have felt very blessed during this illness. Many blessings have come their way in the form of events and opportunities through childhood cancer organizations such as CURE, Rally, Camp Sunshine, and Bert's Big Adventure. They have met many new friends who make up their support system. Locally, friends and family have supported Emory and his family the last 2 1/2 years for which they will be forever grateful.

Recently, MAES raised $200, in honor of Emory, to donate to the "Light the Night" walk in Atlanta.  Emory, his family and friends had a wonderful evening helping to raise money for LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society).  See information in the FORMS section of this page.

On Friday, October 17, 2014, Emory was recognized at a Pep Rally during Morning Assembly at MAES.  He was brought into the assembly on the shoulders of our MCMS Wolves Football Team.  The MCMS Cheerleaders displayed several cheers and stunts, creating a wonderful atmosphere of celebration!  The MCMS Football and Cheer Teams were invited to the Pep Rally to help honor Emory.  They invited him to be their Honorary Manager for the day at thier PINK OUT game.

On Saturday, October 18, 2014, Emory was the GUEST MANAGER at the MCMS vs. FMS middle school football game.  He was able to join the team captains on the 50 yard line for the coin toss, along with two students from MCMS (One who is currently receiving cancer treatment, and one who has been cancer-free for several years.)  Emory was then seen on the sidelines, standing alongside the football players & coaches, cheering on the MC Wolves!  It was truly a beautiful weekend celebrating this amazing hero of ours, Emory Warren!
