Media Clerk

I'm so happy to begin my 3rd year as a Mason Creek Wolfcub!

This year I am celebrating my 26th year as a media clerk for Douglas County.  I began my media career at Mt. Carmel Elementary, moved to Mirror Lake at its opening in 2002, and I'm very excited to be serving the students at Mason Creek.

It must have been in the stars for me to work in a media center because my grandmother was a librarian for 42 years.  She worked in the the Atlanta Public Library System and at College Park Public Library.  She always had a library in an upstairs room of her house for her grandchildren to use.  I have always had a love of reading and I have many old books in my personal collection.  But the main part of my personal library consists of childrens books.  I have many books autographed by authors and illustrators I have been fortunate to meet over the years.  Since Christmas is my favorite holiday I have a collection of about 150 Christmas books!

I have been married for 38 years and have two grown children, so my husband and I are enjoying an empty nest.  My husband is a computer programmer and travels all over the world installing those programs.  My son supervises and trains home inspectors for insurance companies.  He is married and he and my "daughter"-in-law live in Woodstock.  My daughter is a social worker.  She and my wonderful "son"-in-law live in Dallas with my sweet three year old granddaughter.   She is the love of my life and I LOVE spoiling her!  I'm training my granddaughter well, since she is already crazy about books!

I am the oldest of four children; I have one brother and two sisters.  I have three wonderful nieces and one nephew.  I am very active with all of them and attend most of their ball games and school events.  Something unique about my family is that we are multi-cultural.  One niece and my nephew are adopted from Korea.  Their adoptions were a fabulous experience for my family and me.  In addition to spending time with my family, I enjoy reading and playing golf.  My husband and I are also very active in our church where I am a member of the choir.

I firmly believe that children are our future.  The best thing we can do for our children is to give them our quality time.  We need to help them with their studies, be involved in their extracurricular activities, tell them they have the opportunity to be anything they set their mind on, and most of all let them know they are unconditionally loved!  And, of course, encourage them to READ!

I look forward to a fun-filled year at Bookaneer Bay!!
